The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
  Southwestern Garfield County in southern Utah...
  Central Kane County in southern Utah... Specifically for the Grand 
  Staircase Escalante National Monument, including all area washes 
  creeks and rivers.

* Until 315 PM MDT Thursday

* At 911 AM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
  that moderate to heavy rain was falling over the area. This rain 
  coupled with saturated soils from previous storms will result in 
  widespread runoff and localized flooding of normally dry washes 
  and basins including...The Paria River, Wahweep Creek, Warm Creek, 
  Last Chance Creek, and Croton Canyon. Up to one inch of rain has 
  already fallen.

* Flows are expected to crest through midday, then gradually recede 
  this afternoon. Although flash flooding is not expected, rising 
  flows will make many backcountry roads impassible.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Big Water, Henrieville, Cannonville, Kodachrome Basin State Park
  and Lake Powell.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Streams, rivers, and normally dry washes can become raging killer
currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
