...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 100 PM EDT FOR 
ALLEGHANY...WILKES AND ASHE COUNTIES IN NORTHWESTERN NORTH
CAROLINA...

At 1010 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain associated with 
Tropical Storm Michael across the warned area and will continue into 
the afternoon. Since yesterday, some locations within the warned 
area have received in excess of 5 inches of rainfall. Reports have 
been received of minor road issues due to flooding within the 
warned area. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
North Wilkesboro...
Wilkesboro...
Sparta...
Jefferson...
and West Jefferson.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches remain possible in 
the warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
