The Flash Flood Watch continues for * A portion of central North Carolina, including the following counties, Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange, Person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance, Wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson. * Through late tonight * Heavy rain will spread northeastward into southern North Carolina early this morning, and then spread across all of central North Carolina by midday. The heaviest rain will occur late this morning through this evening. Storm total rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches are expected across the northern Piedmont including the Triad and Triangle areas. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are expected elsewhere. The rain will be heavy at times with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. * These rainfall amounts and intensities may produce flash flooding, particularly in low lying and poor drainage areas, and near creeks, streams, and ditches. The heavy rain rates could lead to flash flooding in urban areas and creeks susceptible to urban runoff issues such as Crabtree and Buffalo Creeks. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued. Never drive through areas where water covers the road. Driving into flood waters is a leading cause of death during tropical cyclones such as Michael. Turn around, don't drown. && $$
