...The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Flood
Warning for the following rivers in Upper Michigan...

  Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Baraga and Houghton Counties

.Repetitve moderate to heavy rains have dropped 2 to 4 inches of 
rain across much of the western U.P. since Sunday night. Additional 
rainfall amounts of one half to three quarters of an inch will be 
possible through this evening. Runoff from these rains is creating 
significant rises on area streams and rivers including the Sturgeon 
River. The Sturgeon River at Alston will rise above flood stage 
later today and crest near 8.5 feet Thursday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message...Even 6 inches of fast moving flood water can knock 
you off your feet...and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never 
try to walk...swim...or drive through such swift water. If you come 
upon flood waters...stop...turn around and go another way.

The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a
* Flood Warning for 
  The Sturgeon River near Alston.
* from this morning to Friday afternoon.
* At  7:30 AM Wednesday the stage was 7.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by late this morning and continue
  to rise to near 8.5 feet by late tonight. The river will fall 
  below flood stage late Thursday afternoon.
* At 8.0 feet...Homes and structures along the low lying areas and 
  numerous roads become impacted by flood water. In Houghton 
  County...Sturgeon River Road...Aho Road...and Rajala Road are 
  impacted. In Baraga County...Sturgeon Road...Halonen Road and 
  Usitalo Road are impacted. Along Froberg Road...Tahtinen Road...
  Irwin Road...and Pieti Road are impacted.
