Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Baraga and Houghton Counties .Frequent moderate to heavy rains have dropped 2 to 4 inches of rainfall across much of the western U.P. since Sunday night. Additional rainfall amounts of up to one half inch will be possible through this evening. Runoff from these rains has caused significant rises on area streams and rivers including the Sturgeon River. The Sturgeon River at Alston will rise above flood stage this afternoon, crest near 8.5 feet later this evening and then fall below flood stage Thursday afternoon.
