...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Upper 
Michigan...

  Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Baraga and Houghton Counties

.Frequent moderate to heavy rains have dropped 2 to 4 inches of 
rainfall across much of the western U.P. since Sunday night. Additional 
rainfall amounts of up to one half inch will be possible through this 
evening. Runoff from these rains has caused significant rises on area 
streams and rivers including the Sturgeon River. The Sturgeon River at 
Alston will rise above flood stage this afternoon, crest near 8.5 feet 
later this evening and then fall below flood stage Thursday afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message...Even 6 inches of fast moving flood water can knock 
you off your feet...and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never 
try to walk...swim...or drive through such swift water. If you come 
upon flood waters...stop...turn around and go another way.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Sturgeon River near Alston.
* until Friday afternoon.
* At 11:30 AM Wednesday the stage was 8.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by tonight and continue to rise 
  to near 8.2 feet by late tonight. The river will fall below flood 
  stage by tomorrow afternoon.
* At 8.0 feet...Homes and structures along the low lying areas and 
  numerous roads become impacted by flood water. In Houghton 
  County...Sturgeon River Road...Aho Road...and Rajala Road are 
  impacted. In Baraga County...Sturgeon Road...Halonen Road and 
  Usitalo Road are impacted. Along Froberg Road...Tahtinen Road...
  Irwin Road...and Pieti Road are impacted.
