The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
  McDowell County in western North Carolina...
  Western Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 400 PM EDT.

* At 1153 AM EDT, Excessive runoff continued all throughout the 
  upper Catawba Basin.  The main stem Catawba and it's tributaries, 
  including but not limited to, the North Fork Catawba and Linville 
  River, will take much of the afternoon to return to within their 
  banks.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Marion, Lake James State Park, Lake James, Nebo, Pleasant Gardens,
  Glenwood, Ashford, Woodlawn, Sugar Hill and North Cove.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Numerous roads, parking lots and bridges will be threatened by heavy 
runoff and rising streams and creeks. Please pay close attention to 
road signs indicating a flood-prone area. Obey all barricades, even 
if water is not currently over the road. Barricades are in place for 
your protection and indicate areas where flooding can occur rapidly 
and without warning.
