The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Eastern Mitchell County in western North Carolina...
  Northern Caldwell County in western North Carolina...
  Avery County in western North Carolina...

* Until 145 PM EDT.

* At 839 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
  that anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rain had already fallen across 
  the warned area since yesterday.  There remains the likelihood of 
  additional, occasionally heavy tropical rainfall will continue to 
  overspread the region into this afternoon. Streamgages throughout 
  the South and North Toe basins are continuing to rise and flooding 
  is expected to develop.  In addition, rain is expected to 
  redevelop along Blue Ridge and the Johns River drainage should 
  again develop flood conditions this afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Runoff from heavy rain into creeks and streams will cause sudden
increases in water levels and flows, even in areas where rainfall has
been light or nonexistent. Hikers, campers and other individuals
outdoors must immediately seek high ground and avoid all streams.
