...Significant Flooding Possible Over Much Of Iowa...

.Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected through
tonight and perhaps into Wednesday morning. As each round of
excessive rainfall accumulates, conditions will become 
increasingly more favorable for areal and river flooding. Some of 
the thunderstorms forecast for this afternoon and evening could 
also produce locally heavy rainfall in a short amount of time, 
making flash flooding possible.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...

The Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of central Iowa, north central Iowa, northeast Iowa, 
  northwest Iowa, south central Iowa, southeast Iowa, southwest 
  Iowa, and west central Iowa, including the following areas, in 
  central Iowa, Boone, Dallas, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, 
  Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Tama, and Webster. In north 
  central Iowa, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, 
  Humboldt, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, and Wright. In northeast 
  Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. In northwest Iowa, Emmet, Palo 
  Alto, and Pocahontas. In south central Iowa, Appanoose, 
  Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, 
  Ringgold, Union, Warren, and Wayne. In southeast Iowa, Davis 
  and Wapello. In southwest Iowa, Adair, Adams, Cass, and 
  Taylor. In west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, 
  Crawford, Greene, Guthrie, and Sac. 

* Through Wednesday morning

* Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are forecast through
  tonight, and perhaps into Wednesday morning. Widespread light to
  moderate rain continues over western Iowa at midday, with
  additional heavier storms and rain expected later this afternoon
  and evening. These late day storms may come with a higher risk 
  of localized flash flooding, in addition to the more widespread 
  threat of areal and river flooding. Additional rains of one to 
  three inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts. 

* Saturated soils in addition to expected heavy rainfall will 
  lead to significant runoff into area streams and may result in 
  extensive overland flooding and ponding water. Localized flash 
  flooding may also occur. In addition, widespread river 
  flooding may occur across the northern half of Iowa. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
