678 FXUS65 KSLC 100332 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 932 PM MDT Tue Oct 9 2018 .SYNOPSIS...An unsettled and cool pattern will continue across the region with multiple disturbances expected to impact Utah through the end of the week. && .DISCUSSION...A Pacific Northwest storm system is making its way into northern Utah this evening with the associated front on the leading edge near a KTPH-KSLC line. A broad area of precipitation has developed along and behind this boundary and will continue to track east as the system does tonight into tomorrow morning. Snow levels are progged to drop to the 6000-6500 foot range with significant accumulations anticipated in southwest Wyoming as well as the mountains of northern Utah. Snow levels could be low enough for accumulations at Parley's Summit, which would impact travel during the morning commute. Going Winter Weather Advisory covers this threat well. Some showers will linger over northeastern portions of the forecast area into the afternoon hours as the system pulls away. The progressive pattern will continue during the latter half of the week with a somewhat weaker shortwave bringing the threat of precipitation to primarily central and southern Utah Wednesday night into Thursday, although moisture and dynamics are not as impressive as those with the system currently moving through northern Utah. A drier backdoor system may bring some of the coldest air so far this season to northern and central Utah over the weekend, though associated moisture looks limited at this time. In addition to keeping precip in the forecast, the parade of storm systems will also keep temperatures well below seasonal normals through the end of the forecast period. Updated the forecast earlier to adjust POPs with current radar trends. No additional updates planned. && .AVIATION...MVFR conditions are expected to prevail in rain through about 10-12Z, though some periods of improvement to low- end VFR conditions are possible before that time. Northwest winds will continue through the overnight hours. && .SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... UT...Winter Weather Advisory until 9 AM MDT Wednesday for UTZ007>010.
