946 FXUS66 KSEW 111012 AFDSEW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 312 AM PDT Thu Oct 11 2018 .SYNOPSIS...High pressure over the region will allow for mostly clear skies and dry weather to continue into next week. Areas of fog or low clouds during the overnight and early morning hours are likely at times, especially in prone areas. && .SHORT TERM...An upper ridge will remain just offshore through Saturday for mostly clear skies and dry weather. An upper short wave will dampen the ridge tonight and Friday as it passes to the north. The main impact will be will be to turn the low level flow a bit more onshore. Low level flow will turn more offshore again on Saturday. Areas of fog are likely night and morning hours each day. Highs will be near normal. Schneider .LONG TERM...A strong upper ridge over the Eastern Pacific will move over Western Washington early next week for a dry spell Sunday through Wednesday. Low level offshore will also continue through the period. This pattern should continue to be conducive to some night and morning fog, especially in fog prone valleys. Aside from some morning fog, days should be mostly sunny and highs will be near normal or maybe even a little above normal. Schneider && .AVIATION...Northerly flow aloft will continue through the majority of Thursday due to an upper level ridge over the region. Flow aloft will shift more northwesterly Thursday night as a trough approaches from the north. VFR cigs currently exists across most of W WA. Exceptions exist where fog has developed along the southwest interior and Snohomish River Valley. Areas of fog/LIFR conditions will become more widespread 11z-14z due to boundary layer moisture and clear skies. Expect the fog to burnoff by 18z. Mainly clear skies expected this afternoon after lingering fog clears. Surface winds will remain light. Fog may re-develop tonight into Friday morning as skies will remain mainly clear with light surface winds. KSEA...Above discussion applies. Current VFR cigs are expected to erode to LIFR conditions this morning with fog developing around 14z and continuing through 18z before burning off. Cigs below 200 feet and visibility below 1 mile with the fog. A light northerly surface wind is expected through today. Mainly clear skies will prevail this afternoon with some high cirrus. JD && .MARINE...Light offshore flow this morning will turn onshore this evening and remain that way through Friday. While models have backed away from the prospect of small craft advisory speed winds in the strait Friday morning...previous solutions did advertise such speeds...so while not in the morning forecast...it will be something for future shifts to monitor. Stronger northerly offshore flow will develop Friday night and Saturday morning, with small craft strength northeasterlies possible from the islands out through the Strait.
