408 FXUS66 KSEW 101634 AFDSEW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 915 AM PDT Wed Oct 10 2018 .SYNOPSIS...High pressure will give the region dry weather for the next week. Areas of night and morning fog or low clouds are likely at times. && .SHORT TERM...Western Washington has a few areas of clouds and some fog patches this morning. Low clouds and fog are mainly in the Puget Sound basin and southwest Washington. There are some mid level clouds moving south in the northerly flow aloft--especially over Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties and over the Cascades. There should be more sunshine this afternoon, but it will probably be a couple days before the air dries out--and the air aloft is still a bit cool, but it will be warming slowly over the next few days. A weather system will pass by to the north of the area Thursday night and Friday--but it is not expected to have much effect on Western Washington. Light northerly low level flow should become more easterly with time and increase. This pattern is good for night and morning fog for the lowlands, especially the usual valley locations. .LONG TERM...Dry weather will continue into next week with the strong upper ridge offshore at first, but then possibly shifting right over Washington by the middle of next week. Low level offshore flow will keep the air warm and dry except for some night and morning fog in the usual valley locations. The air aloft will be warming if the ridge does indeed shift east over our area--the GEFS ensemble mean gets up around 14c next Wednesday. && .AVIATION...Moderate northerly flow aloft through Thursday due to a high amplitude pattern, however upper ridging will settle in from the northwest. The air mass will be stable, with drying taking place. However, overnight and morning fog will again be possible on Thu AM due to boundary layer moisture and clear skies above. This morning's fog appears to be quite shallow. So even with light wind, has already started burning off in some locations, and it should burn off readily in remaining locales late this morning. KSEA...This morning's fog appears to be quite shallow, which will help vsby to continue improving. Fog risk is in the process of ending now, though some lingering low stratus remains possible until about noon. After that, clear skies and light northerly wind are expected through this evening. Late tonight and Thursday morning, fog re-development appears likely. Should again be shallow, with burnoff late Thu morning. Haner && .MARINE...Light northerly offshore flow will prevail through Thursday morning, becoming northerly onshore flow late Thursday through Friday. Stronger northerly offshore flow will develop Friday night and Saturday morning, with small craft strength easterlies possible near the West Entrance and Grays Harbor. Areas of fog will be possible each day through Saturday morning during the overnight and morning hours. Haner && .SEW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... WA...None. PZ...None. && $$ www.weather.gov/seattle
