617 FXUS66 KOTX 110937 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 237 AM PDT Thu Oct 11 2018 .SYNOPSIS... A mild weather pattern is expected for the remainder of the week and into the next as high pressure builds over the region. A dry cold front Friday night will have the potential to produce breezy north winds down the Okanogan valley and over the western Columbia Basin Friday night. At this time, no precipitation is in the forecast for the next week. && .DISCUSSION... Today through Saturday: Many chilly locations this morning as clear skies have allowed for good radiational cooling overnight. Expect areas of frost this morning as you are driving before surfaces start to warm from the sun. Temperatures will be fairly similar to yesterday. This afternoon we will see an increase in high level clouds from the north as the ridge begins to buckle ahead of the next weather system. The clouds will remain through the night which will keep temps a few degrees warmer that what we are seeing this morning. Models agree that the stronger energy associated with Friday's weather system will remain to the north. The main impact will be a decrease in clouds, very dry canadian air moving in behind it and an increase in northerly or westerly winds (depending on where you are). The strongest winds will occur across the Okanogan Valley and Pasayten Wilderness Friday afternoon and evening. Gusts up to 30 mph will be possible with stronger gusts in the mountains. They will funnel down the Okanogan Valley into the Waterville Plateau and Columbia Basin. Winds will decrease a bit through the overnight hours, but then increase again late Saturday morning. Winds are not expected to be as strong except for around the Moses Lake/Ephrata area where they could see gusts to 25 mph through the early afternoon. /Nisbet Sunday and Monday: Our air mass will be quite dry following our dry cold front Friday night into Saturday. Surface dewpoints in the 20s are expected Sunday into Monday. Low level dryness combined with light winds and mainly clear skies will promote efficient radiational cooling. Look for morning temperatures in the 30s with pockets of mid to upper 20s in the sheltered valleys of north Idaho and northeast Washington including Republic, Deer Park, Newport, and Springdale. An abundance of sunshine and relatively light winds will help upper 50s and low 60s feel mild despite being a bit below average. Tuesday through Thursday: The medium range models are in good agreement that the Inland Northwest will experience a gradual warming trend during the early to middle part of next week. Strong high pressure is forecast to move inland producing strong morning inversions followed by afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 60s. /GKoch && .AVIATION... 06Z TAFS: High pressure and drier air moving will lead to dry, VFR conditions with mainly transient middle to high clouds. Though some thicker cloud cover is possible through the early overnight near EAT as some clouds linger near the Cascades. Winds will be light and diurnally driven. /Cote' && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
