588 FXUS65 KMSO 092034 AFDMSO Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Missoula MT 234 PM MDT Tue Oct 9 2018 .DISCUSSION...A pretty strong mid level low pressure system currently resides over south central Idaho. Wrap around moisture from this low extends into west central and southwest Montana as well as central Idaho and Lemhi county. Areas most impacted by this moisture will be across southwest Montana, Lost Trail pass and southward into Lemhi county. 1-2" of accumulating snow is possible above 5000 feet especially across Lemhi county. This upper low will continue to move south and east of the region leaving behind scattered rain and snow showers overnight. It's possible a couple of showers could produce a quick inch of snow. Wednesday a trough will remain over the region resulting in unstable and cool conditions. This will be conducive for continued rain/snow showers across southwest Montana, central Idaho and Lemhi county. Thursday and Friday, a general northerly flow will persist leaving us in a cool pattern with dry conditions. Late Friday into Saturday another weather system will move through this north flow and impact the northern Rockies with another closed low resulting in widespread rain and mountain snow showers. Sunday and Monday of next week expect dry conditions with warming temperatures into the mid and upper 50s. This ridging pattern may well last through the middle of next week with at or above normal temperatures. && .AVIATION...Gusty easterly winds will dominate this afternoon until just after midnight, with areas around GPI gusting to 30 MPH including the higher terrain.
