875 FXUS62 KMFL 110800 AFDMFL Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 400 AM EDT Thu Oct 11 2018 .DISCUSSION... Tropical Storm Michael will continue to move across the southeastern portion of the country today before moving into the northern Atlantic waters on Friday. A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms has developed across the northern and interior areas of South Florida. This line is out ahead of a weak frontal boundary that will move towards the Lake Okeechobee region for the end of the week. A south to southwesterly flow will develop out ahead of this frontal boundary which will help to bring some tropical moisture into the area from the south. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible today with the highest coverage occurring over the northern areas as well as the Lake Okechobee region. Some patchy fog is possible mainly across the northwestern interior areas late tonight and into early Friday morning due to the southwesterly wind flow. High temperatures this afternoon will climb up into the upper 80s to lower 90s across the region due to the southwesterly flow as well. These highs will be close to the record highs for this time of year. More on this in the climate section below. Both of the latest GFS and the ECMWF show an area of high pressure building into the Southeastern portion of the country this upcoming weekend which will allow for a return of east to southeasterly flow for South Florida. Therefore, pops will be more in the isolated to scattered range with the best coverage over the interior and west coast metro areas this weekend. The ridge of high pressure will strengthen and remain over the Southeastern United States early next week. This will allow for the easterly wind flow to become more breezy over South Florida early next week with isolated to scattered pops each afternoon. The best coverage will again be over the interior and west coast metro areas. && .MARINE... South to southwesterly wind flow will continue across the Atlantic and Gulf waters through the end of the work week. Wind speeds will range between 10 and 15 knots across the local waters today. These wind speeds will slowly start to diminish tonight across the Gulf coastal waters. Seas across the Atlantic and Gulf waters will begin to diminish throughout the end of the week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each day. Winds and waves will be locally higher in and around any shower or thunderstorm. && .BEACH FORECAST... There will be a moderate risk of rip currents along the Gulf Coast beaches today as southwesterly flow continues. The Gulf Coast beaches of South Florida will also see some minor coastal flooding from Michael and the King tides. At this time it looks like the surge could be up to 1 foot during the high tides again today. && .CLIMATE...
