492 FXUS65 KLKN 111037 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 337 AM PDT Thu Oct 11 2018 .SYNOPSIS...A weak weather disturbance will bring a few valley rain showers and some mountain snow to central and east-central Nevada today with a stretch of drier weather beginning Friday. Another weather system will bring increased cloud cover and gusty winds to northeast Nevada Saturday but dry conditions will persist through next week. && .SHORT TERM...Today through Friday. Upper-level trough draped over the region will allow for a few showers across northern Nye and White Pine counties today. Precipitation amounts will be minimal with a few inches of snow possible across the higher mountains of GBNP. Precip moves out of the state Thursday night with dry and warmer conditions on Friday. Winds will remain light through Friday with relatively weak flow aloft. .LONG TERM...Friday night through Wednesday. Amplified ridge, primarily along the West Coast, dominates the pattern through the long term period. There are subtle day to day changes, although there is a trend to warmer temps into Saturday. There is a prominent short wave from Canada that will bring cooler temps on Sunday, followed by another slow warming trend. As the short wave moves downstream, the ridge shifts over the northern Rockies. A weak closed low circulations may form over the desert southwest with a remote chance on bringing some moisture to east central Nevada for next Wednesday. && .AVIATION...Scattered showers will form overnight over east Central Nevada and will be in the vicinity of KELY. Showers will decrease after 18Z Thursday. Local MVFR and partial mountain obscurations are possible from passing showers. VFR conditions expected for KWMC, KBAM, KTPH, and KEKO. && .FIRE WEATHER...Cool temperatures along with relatively high humidity are expected today. A weak weather disturbance will allow for a few light rain and higher elevation snow showers to develop today across valleys in across fire weather zones 457 and 455.
