216 FXUS65 KLKN 102150 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 250 PM PDT Wed Oct 10 2018 .SYNOPSIS...Cooler weather is expected to continue across the area while another weak system moves across central Nevada producing light to moderate mountain snow showers and valley rain showers on Thursday. The system will exit the region by Friday, when drier and warmer weather will build into the region. && .SHORT TERM...Today through Friday. Confidence in the short term is high as the only concern will be a weak weather system traversing across central Nevada from late tonight through tomorrow. This will provide an opportunity for valley rain showers and mountain snow showers. Generally only expecting a few inches of snow for the mountains. We still cannot rule out a few rain showers mix with or briefly change to snow in some of the higher elevation valleys in Nye and White Pine County, but even if that were to occur, impacts would be minor. By Friday morning and afternoon, the storm will be exiting to the east with a slight warming trend and a return to drier weather. .LONG TERM...Friday night through Thursday. There is good agreement amongst long term models on the pattern evolution through the weekend and into next week. The weekend and next week will see a rex blocking pattern set up across the western CONUS. This will start with a low pressure system deepening and then cutting off near the Baja California region during the weekend. This will then see a high pressure system build in north of the cut off system setting up the rex block by the start of next work week. This pattern will produce dry weather across NV. This period will not even see any real cloud cover. This will also bring temperatures into seasonal levels for this time of year. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions at all terminals for the next 24hours. There will still be some light showers near KTPH and KELY today. This additional rain may lead to some fog or level stratus but the chance is not near enough to reflect in the forecasts. && .FIRE WEATHER...Much cooler weather with continued good to excellent RH recoveries will continue. A weak weather system will pass through central Nevada, with some light to moderate mountain snow and valley rain showers. By Friday, a warming and drying trend will replace the current weather pattern. && .LKN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...None. && $$ 94/99/99/94
