VFR/SKC to prevail as drier air arrives in the wake of a cool front. NWLY winds will diminish to around 5 KT over the next few hours, then trend NLY around 10 KT by Thursday morning. 24 PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 337 PM CDT Wed Oct 10 2018/ SYNOPSIS... Historic Major Hurricane Michael made landfall earlier this afternoon in the Florida Panhandle near Mexico Beach, and continues to move steadily off to the northeast. As this system moves off to the northeast, residual elevated water levels and swells from this system will decrease, although it looks like the coastal flood advisory will be needed for one more high tide cycle this afternoon into early evening. A large upper level trough from the northern Plains down into east Texas and helped deflect the hurricane away from this part of the Gulf is continuing to move eastward push a cold front through the forecast area, providing clearing skies and drier air. Rua DISCUSSION... The upper level trough will continue to push off to the east, and combined with flow from around the tropical cyclone, will provide a deep northerly flow over the forecast area for the next couple of days that will provide nice and pleasant weather. Looks like the low tonight will be below 70F degrees at Lake Charles and this will break a consecutive streak of 149 days that the temperature has not fallen below 70F degrees at the official reporting site at the Lake Charles Regional Airport or basically since May 14. The high pressure system that will build into the forecast area will move off to the east over the weekend, allowing for southerly winds to return and a warm-up. However, this warm-up should be brief, as another, looks like even more significant of a cold front will move through late Sunday night and early Monday. There is some disagreement as to if any over-riding clouds or showers will continue in the southwest flow aloft behind the front. Therefore, will go with superblend and leave a slight chance for showers through the end of the forecast period. Rua MARINE... Residual swells and elevated waves from Hurricane Michael will decrease through the night as the system continues to move well off to the northeast. High pressure from the Plains will ridge down into the coastal waters over through the end of the week, and this will provide modest offshore flow. Winds will become onshore over the weekend as the high moves off to the east and another cold front approaches the region from the northwest. This cold front is expected to move across the coastal waters early Monday, providing moderate to strong offshore flow and the possibility of small craft advisory conditions.
