420 FXUS63 KLBF 111128 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 628 AM CDT Thu Oct 11 2018 .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 323 AM CDT Thu Oct 11 2018 Main forecast issue this period are morning temperatures. Stratus has moved into parts of the forecast area keeping temperatures from falling into the low teens to low 20s. However, decided not to raise temperatures as a break in the clouds will allow temperatures to plummet and forecaster confidence is moderate that clouds will become more scattered or clear in locations before sunrise. A disturbance will move across the High Plains this afternoon and evening bringing precipitation chances. Decided to lower precipitation chances this afternoon however as the best chance for rainfall will be this evening. Rain will then change to snow across the Sandhills and portions of north central Nebraska overnight, with a rain/snow mix possible farther east. At this time snow accumulations are expected to be minimal. .LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday) Issued at 323 AM CDT Thu Oct 11 2018 Forecast concerns will focus on the cold front moving through the area Saturday. At this time there is a chance of rain changing to snow overnight, mainly across southwest and western Nebraska. However, models suggest the system doesn't have a lot of available moisture with it so precipitation amounts will be very light, less than 0.10 of an inch expected at this time. Temperatures will be 25 to 30 degrees cooler on Sunday with highs only reaching the low to mid 30s. After this temperatures will start to warm with highs reaching the 60s by Wednesday. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Friday morning) Issued at 628 AM CDT Thu Oct 11 2018 Dry weather with increasing clouds throughout the day should be expected at both terminals. Precipitation arrives late Thursday. Current thinking is that precipitation will remain all rain south of a line from Imperial to North Platte to Burwell. North of this line, precipitation will transition over to all snow. Have added rain to the forecast for KLBF and snow for KVTN for the early Friday morning hours as a result. Expect ceilings to drop as well as precipitation moves into the region. && .LBF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
