549 FXUS62 KKEY 100846 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 446 AM EDT Wed Oct 10 2018 .DISCUSSION... Around the Keys and coastal waters this morning a few isolated showers are continuing to race northward with storm activity continuing to diminish as the effects of Michael move further to the north and out of the region. The pressure gradient remains a bit tight though with sustained winds around 16 mph with gusting above 20 mph at KKEY... while Marathon is reporting south winds around 12 mph. Looking at current temperatures along the Key all locations are holding in the lower 80s... this will change as temperatures just fall a bit towards sunrise. A Small Craft Advisory remains will remain in effect for the gulf side coastal waters... but will taper coastal zones back through the day as the gradient weakens and winds diminish. Seas with subside in response to falling winds. Will hold onto higher precipitation pops over the outer gulf side zones early... but trending all zones back to around 50 percent pops through the day. As Michael moves into Georgia tonight... moisture will following in the wake of this storm and will trend precipitation back a bit more tonight. Weather will move back to the usual pattern with passing showers and isolated thunderstorms for tomorrow. Those that have been waiting for the first cold front. Well a front that is currently in Louisiana and the Texas coastal waters will move across the gulf today and into central Florida towards Friday where the system stall just to our north. This will kick off showers across the Keys Friday into Saturday. This boundary is then projected to pull back with precipitation tapering back to seasonal climate levels late Saturday. && .AVIATION... All sites remain vfr with only a few light showers in the coastal waters. Winds at 1,000 to 3,000 feet are south around 32 to 37 knots. These conditions will hold through the morning hours. && .CLIMATE... On this date in 1870, a hurricane moved slowly through the Florida Straits producing hurricane-force winds in the Florida Keys.
