296 FXUS64 KJAN 110020 AAA AFDJAN Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Jackson MS 720 PM CDT Wed Oct 10 2018 .UPDATE... Updated for 00Z aviation discussion && .AVIATION... 00Z TAF discussion: Cold front is working through the region now and will clear to the east of all but at least coastal MS by daybreak. Some scattered to broken cloud decks with bases as low as 3 kt will produce a few showers across eastern MS this evening, but all the clouds and any remaining showers should be to the east of our region after midnight. Surface winds tonight into especially tomorrow will range from the northwest to west and range from 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph during the day tomorrow. In short, VFR conditions are anticipated through the next 24 hours. /BB/ && .DISCUSSION... Tonight and tomorrow... A few showers have developed in the eastern part of the forecast area near the MS/AL state line. This is thanks to daytime heating ahead of a cold front that is moving through the region. This front will continue to move through during the rest of the day. These showers should diminish through the evening as drier air moves in. Conditions should be rather pleasant and fall-like starting later tonight as drier air moves in and skies begin to clear. Temperatures tonight should range from the mid/upper 50s in the northwest to the lower 60s in the southeast. Very nice, much anticipated, fall-like conditions expected tomorrow, with temperatures in the lower 70s in the northwest to the upper 70s/around 80 in the southeast. /28/ Friday through next week: Upper zonal flow returns on Friday with northerly cold air advection still at the surface. Temperatures will remain "cool" (mid 70s), or at least cooler than it has been, but still right about normal for this time of the year. Dewpoints falling into the 40s will certainly lead to that crisp fall feeling on Friday morning that we've been waiting for since September. A surface high pressure easing through the Midwest on Saturday will leave conditions quiet over the ArkLaMiss and temperatures will be nearly normal to start the weekend. On Sunday, the surface flow rotates back to the south as the surface high pressure moves to the east coast. Remnants from the eastern Pacific Tropical Storm Sergio moving into Texas/Oklahoma will slow and phase into the subtropical ridge over the mid-Mississippi valley just ahead of another cold front. This front will move into our CWA on Monday and bring a good reinforcing, cool airmass. At this point, the best rain chances with this system will be over the Delta region with scattered chances everywhere else. On the backside of this system, temperatures may fall into the 40s over a good chunk of our area, primarily along and north of I-20. Highs on Tuesday will rise to the 60s/low 70s. Although, the strength of the subtropical ridge may hinder the full potential of the cold airmass moving in. Temperatures will at least be in the 70s. /10/ && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
