Northwestern Burke County in western North Carolina... * Until 1100 PM EDT Wednesday. * At 452 PM EDT, steady light to moderate rainfall continues across the Blue Ridge Escarpment from Little Switzerland to Edgemont, Collettsville, Upton, and Pineola. Total accumulations of 2-4 inches over the past 8-10 hours has caused gradual rises on area streams and creeks and low-lying area flooding in ongoing. Therefore, the Flood Advisory has been extended through 11 PM as additional light to moderate rainfall is expected this evening. This additional rainfall will prolong flooding and keep streamlevels above critical levels for the next several hours. * Common flood areas including Brown Mountain Beach Rd. and Old Johns River Rd. are currently being impacted. Fast flows on Wilson Creek continue and must be avoided through tonight as levels will remain elevated. * The following streamgauge remains above Minor Flood Stage: Wilson Creek near Edgemont. Current Stage: 6.12 feet and nearly steady. Forecast: Wilson Creek will remain above Minor Flood Stage for another 1-2 hours as additional high flows are generated in the headwaters from ongoing rainfall. Action Stage: 4.0 feet. Minor Flood Stage: 5.0 feet. * The following streamgauge remains above Action/Advisory Stage: Johns River at Arneys Store 6 N Morganton. Current Stage: 8.75 feet and rising steadily. Forecast: The Johns River will approach 10.0 feet over the next 1-2 hours and may approach Minor Flood Stage later this evening as flows upstream remain high. Action Stage: 9.0 feet. Minor Flood Stage: 12.0 feet. * The following streamgauge remains above Action/Advisory Stage: North Fork Catawba above US 221 3 NE North Cove. Current Stage: 7.26 feet and cresting.
