Union County in the Piedmont of North Carolina... * Until 1045 PM EDT. * At 446 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall due to showers is continuing across eastern and northeastern Union County. Total rainfall of 1-2.5 inches has fallen over the past 4-6 hours and an additional inch of rainfall is likely from Wingate to New Salem as this current round of showers ends from south to north through 6 pm. This rainfall will cause minor flooding of low-lying areas as well as ponding of water on some roadways into this evening. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Monroe, Unionville, Wingate, Marshville, Sturdivants, Trinity and New Salem. * The following streams and associated tributaries are experiencing rapid rises and may exceed their banks in a few locations: Lanes Creek, Richardson Creek, Waxhaw Creek, Stewarts Creek, Bearskin Creek, and Salem Creek. Please avoid all stream banks and other low-lying areas near streams including greenways and parks until the threat has passed. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in urban areas, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.
