The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for...
  Alleghany County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina...

* Until 615 PM EDT

* At 1215 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated persistent moderate, to 
  occasionally heavy rain that will cause minor flooding. 
  Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in 
  the advisory area. Observations indicate that between one and two 
  inches of rain has fallen over parts of northwest North Carolina. 

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
  Boone...
  North Wilkesboro...
  Wilkesboro...
  Sparta...
  and Jefferson.

Additional rainfall of an inch or more is expected over the area 
this afternoon. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
