462 FXUS65 KBOI 100245 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 845 PM MDT Tue Oct 9 2018 .DISCUSSION...Showers continue to move through southwestern Idaho this evening, with the best shower activity noted south and east of Boise. Record breaking rainfall has been recorded in Boise, with other city reports filtering in this evening. Still looks that most activity should weaken through the overnight hours. Another disturbance will develop some shower activity Wednesday, especially across the higher terrain of central Idaho. No changes needed to evening forecast. && .AVIATION...Rain and high elevation snow showers continuing through 10/06, except through 10/12Z in the Magic Valley and areas south. IFR fog and low clouds likely impacting some or all TAF sites through mid-morning. Conditions improving Wednesday mid-day. Surface winds: Northwest at 10 kts or less. Winds aloft near 10 KFT MSL: N- NE 15-25 kts. && .PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Tonight through Friday Night...Upper level low over the forecast area this evening will slowly drift into Utah by morning. Trailing northwest flow will keep showers going in the Magic Valley much of the night, but other areas should break up and see some clearing. Snow level remains around 5500-6500 ft. Significant northwest winds this evening will start to diminish by morning. Those winds may inhibit fog formation in some areas, but believe there will be enough clearing that we added some areas of patchy fog in the morning for all areas that received precipitation today. On Wednesday, a weak secondary wave dropping south, combined with moisture at the mid levels, will keep some showers possible over the Central Idaho Mountains through the afternoon, but should remain dry elsewhere. Northerly flow continues through Thursday and Friday, which keep us from seeing much warming, even though sunshine should be plentiful. Temperatures remain 5-15 degrees below normal through Friday. LONG TERM...Saturday through Tuesday...Upper level ridge to the west and upper level trough over the Rocky Mountains will keep cool northerly flow over the forecast area through Monday. Temperatures around 5-10 degrees below normal. Moisture associated with this system will generally stay in Montana on Sunday. Upper level ridging develops across the West next week with temperatures warming to near normal by midweek. && .BOI WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ID...None.
